Embedding the Filing String Within a Document

Tips for Embedding the Filing String

When a document with encoded filing information is sent to the Print to vMedia printer, the resulting image will not show the embedded text string. However, when the document is printed to a different printer, the embedded text string will be printed on the page at the location where it appears in the application.

Strategies for placing this information so that it is unobtrusive varies with the software that generates the print job.

Some suggestions for camouflaging the text include:

  • Use the smallest font size possible - The font size does not affect the ability of Print to vMedia to correctly interpret the filing information. Use a 1 or 2 point font if it is supported.

  • Change the color of the characters - The color of the characters does not affect the ability of Print to vMedia to correctly interpret the filing information.

  • Use a light color, white, or a color to match the background to prevent the text string from appearing on the printed page. Some programs attempt to expedite the process of printing by omitting information that would not show, or if set to use the same color as the background of the paper.

  • Locate outside the printable area - Some programs permit some information to exist outside the "printable area" of the printer and may or may not warn of this situation. If the program sends the characters outside the printable area to the printer anyway, then the document will be filed properly by vMedia.
