Enabling Bar Code Recognition During Scanning

Overview

Accurate establishment of bar code recognition is critical to the scanning process. When you click on the [Bar Code Setup] button, the Bar Code Setup dialog box opens. Here you can define the bar code characteristics.

Procedure

  1. On the Image Control window, select the image database and click the [Scanning Module] button.
  2. On the Scanning Module main window, click the [Image Control] button.
  3. The Scanner Image Control dialog box opens. Click the [Advanced Scanner Features] button.

  1. Click [Bar Code Setup] from the Image-Master Advanced Features dialog box.
  2. Set your desired options.

Bar Code Setup Dialog Box Options

  • Recognition – Select this check box to enable bar code recognition.
  • Learn Mode – Select this check box to enable Image-Master to automatically determine the density, height, minimum characters, search direction, ratio, and width of the selected bar code types.
  • Type – Can use single or multiple types. To select the type to use, double-click the bar code type from the Available list box. To deselect it, double-click the bar code type on the In Use list.
  • 2 To 1 Ratio – Indicates the ratio of wide bars to narrow bars. This does not apply to all bar code types.
  • Bar Size:
    • Height - The minimum height a bar code must be to be recognized by Image-Master.
    • Width - The minimum width a single line of a bar code must be to be recognized by Image-Master.
  • Search Direction – The bar code recognition feature will read bar codes according to the orientation that is selected for this field:
    • 0˚      Horizontal, left to right reading will take place (the default)
    • 90˚   Read a vertical bar from the top of the page to the bottom.
    • 180˚   Read a horizontal bar from the right side of the page to the left.
    • 270˚  Read a vertical bar from the bottom of the page to the top.

More than one search direction can be selected; however, this does slow the scanning process.

  • Quality – Select either Good, Normal, or Poor to indicate how clearly delineated the bar code must be on the page to be recognized for scanning into the system.
    • Good - Bar Code is clearly printed on the page.
    • Normal - Bar Code is readable but may have some imperfections.
    • Poor - Bar Code quality is hard to distinguish on the page.
  • Interpret Bar Code as Patch Code – Select if a bar code also will be recognized as a patch code.
  • Limits – Determines recognition for the following bar code characteristics:
    • Minimum Characters in a Bar Code – The minimum number of characters needed to be recognized as a bar code.
    • Maximum Bar Codes Per Page – When this number of bar codes is found on a page, Image-Master will stop looking for bar codes on that page.
    • Maximum Bar Codes Per Line – When this number of bar codes is found on a line, Image-Master will stop looking for bar codes on that line.
  • Checksum – When selected, Image-Master will attempt to verify the bar code contains a checksum.
