Installing vMedia on a Terminal Server

10/12/2016 - Added documentation for Installing vMedia on a Terminal Server.

System Requirements:

vMedia can be operated remotely through Citrix or Terminal Server to provide secure, authenticated, and managed access to documents from remote locations and across the internet. A minimum of 175MB of RAM should be allocated to each session.

Installation:

vMedia must be installed on a terminal server as a terminal server application; in other words, just running the workstation installation component WORKSTATION_SETUP.EXE is not sufficient. Unlike a typical vMedia workstation installation, installing the vMedia program as a Terminal Service application installs VMEDIA.EXE and VMPTV.EXE to C:\IMASTER on the terminal server. This means when the core vMedia software is updated on the network, WORKSTATION_SETUP.EXE also needs to be run on the terminal server, even if the installation instructions indicate that a workstation installation is not required.

Installation requires a reboot of the terminal server, so all users should be out of vMedia.

To install vMedia on a terminal server:

  1. Open the "Control Panel."

  2. Switch to "Classic View."

  3. Choose "Install Terminal Server Application" from the list.

  4. Navigate to the network location of vMedia.

  5. Run WORKSTATION_SETUP.EXE.

  6. When the software installation is complete, reboot the terminal server.

Note:

If the Windows print spooler on the terminal server is directed to a non-standard location, e.g. "c:\PrintSpool", the users must be given sufficient rights to the folder. Users need all rights to the spool location EXCEPT:

  • Full Control

  • Delete Subfolders and Files

  • Change Permissions

  • Take Ownership
