Overview
About the Software
The vMedia Document Migration Facility IMDMF7.EXE permits
automated exportation and importation of vMedia managed documents
in both 32 and 64 bit environments. The program interfaces with
vMedia databases to control the process of preparing documents for
transmission to/from multiple scanning or viewing locations.
While the software is easy to operate, it was originally
designed for specific site requirements, thus a high degree of
technical expertise is recommended to install and configure the
system.
Basic Design Framework
The Document Migration Facility (IMDMF7.EXE) tool will
transfer vMedia data from
or to any number of remote locations, provided that the
databases in use are principally identical in structure. Each
participating site is required to have a completely operational and
separately licensed copy of vMedia.
Scanning operations take place normally using the same practices
and procedures that are followed for single site scanning. At some
point defined by the administrator, scanning will stop and the
migration tool would be run to transfer the index and image data to
removable media, a CD-ROM staging drive, directly over the
internet, or by some other data conveyance to the destination
location. Then, the migration tool would be invoked again at the
destination to merge the index and image data generated at the
remote site.
Site Construction Details
The destination site should be able to accept image data using
the same rules of structure that are in force at each of the remote
sites. As a practical matter, this means that the folders and
images must be able to be created at the destination without
impacting on local scanning operations at the destination. It is
also important to note that the migration tool is not currently
able to span removable media, so each export session must be able
to completely fit on one media cartridge or disk.
The migration tool has been tested with Zip and Jazz disks,
optical disks, CD-recordable and CD-rewritable disks, and a variety
of recordable DVD disks. With transfer capacities ranging from 100
megabytes to 9 gigabytes, there should be no need to span media as
long as you choose an appropriate transfer device. The migration
tool has been tested with a variety of internet transfer mechanisms
including FTP, secure FTP, and VPN connections.
