Scanning: End of Document Processing

06/06/2017 - Updated Scanning: End of Document Processing documentation regarding Patch Codes.

11/02/2016 - Added Left Offset to Patch Code Interior (in inches) option Patch Code documentation.

Overview

  • This Patch Code Recognition section shows which processing option will be used for each recognized Patch Code.

    • Patch Code Type – Select which type of Patch Code will be used.

      • Patch Codes Type 2 and Type 4 are symmetrical and will work in all cases. Clients are encouraged to use a Type 2 or Type 4 Code to eliminate symmetry problems. vMedia works correctly with these Patch Code Types.

      • Patch Codes Type 1 and 6 and codes type 3 and T are inversions of each other, respectively. vMedia recognizes pages where only one orientation is present on the page (for example when using the older WMF variants located in MODULES\BARCODE) correctly for types 1 and 3; however, there is a bug that swaps type 6 and T in the configuration dialog.

      • When using the four quadrant pages with Patch Codes Types 1,6,3,T the inversion code may be returned (e.g. a 3 is returned for a T, a 6 for a 1). If clients must use the asymmetrical pairs, then configure the end of document settings for both elements in the pair.

        • Then, vMedia will process the action regardless of how the toolkit returns the patch codes on the page.

    • No Action – Patch code will not trigger an event although patch codes may be detected.

    • Save Document and Continue Scanning – All unsaved scanned images up to that point will be saved. After saving, the scanning process automatically continues. The Fully Automated option on the Scanner Image Control dialog box must be selected for this option. The patch code does not show up in the scan set and it is not included in the Scan Set Status number.

    • Save Document and Stop Scanning – All scanned images up to that point will be saved and scanning stops.

    • Stop Scanning – The scan process will stop. The user can then save or discard the unsaved scans.

  • The Feeder Empty Ends Document option controls the end of document behavior when all of the pages have been scanned through the feeder and the final page does not contain an explicit End of Document marker.

    • Option Checked - The last page scanned in Fully Automated scanning mode will contain an implicit End of Document marker and the document will be closed and saved.

    • Option Unchecked - The last page scanned in Fully Automated scanning mode will be treated as an interior page of the document. Control will be returned to the scanning operator with the document in progress scanned as in Assisted Mode.

NOTE: If the scanner feeder is reloaded and Fully Automated scanning chosen, pages will continue to be appended to the document until the next end of document marker is reached.

  • This option can be changed by the scanning operator during the scanning session and is saved within the database configuration. The saved setting will be restored with the other scanner settings when the module is invoked.
